Asunción, Agencia IP.- A recent article published by the World Bank highlights Paraguay’s progress in economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction, positioning the country as a relevant case in Latin America.
The analysis was prepared by Susana Cordeiro Guerra, World Bank Vice President for the Latin America and Caribbean region, and Pablo Saavedra, World Bank Vice President for Prosperity, who emphasize the country’s sustained performance over the last two decades.
According to the document, poverty in Paraguay was reduced from over 50% to 16% in 2025, allowing a third of the population to escape poverty. In the last two years alone, some 300,000 people have risen out of poverty, consolidating a sustained trend of improvement in social indicators.
The article indicates that this progress is due to policies focused on productivity and job creation. In this context, it is noted that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth has remained around 5% annually, one of the most dynamic in Latin America, driven primarily by increased labor income.
The blog also underscores the role of infrastructure, particularly hydroelectric power from the Itaipu and Yacyretá dams, as a key factor in attracting investment and improving the country’s competitiveness.
Furthermore, it highlights reforms aimed at improving the business climate, such as simplifying business registration and modernizing the maquila regime, which have contributed to boosting the private sector and expanding job opportunities.
In the social sphere, the report emphasizes programs like Zero Hunger, which benefits more than one million children in the public education system, strengthening both nutrition and local economic development.
However, the document warns that challenges persist in departments such as Caaguazú, Caazapá, and San Pedro, where poverty levels still exceed the national average.
Finally, the blog concludes that the Paraguayan experience demonstrates that sustained poverty reduction is built upon comprehensive policies that combine macroeconomic stability, infrastructure investment, strengthening of the private sector, and social programs focused on expanding opportunities.
This international recognition positions Paraguay as a regional leader in economic development with social impact.
