Asunción, Agencia IP.- President Santiago Peña welcomed a delegation of U.S. Congress members yesterday. The delegation came on an official visit to the country at the invitation of the Paraguayan President to strengthen relations.
The delegation comprises seven members of the U.S. House of Representatives from the Democratic and Republican parties. The official visit will address opportunities for economic exchange and expand bilateral trade.
President Peña, accompanied by ministers from his cabinet, hosted a reception for the visitors. The delegation will also visit an American export company and tour the Historic Center of Asunción, continuing their regional tour that includes stops in Argentina and Paraguay and will conclude in Chile.
In February of this year, President Peña received a visit from Senator Marco Rubio, who highlighted the enormous opportunities for collaboration with the Paraguayan Executive Branch. Following that historic visit, the authorities met again in May in the United States during Peña’s visit to strengthen relations with the U.S. Congress.
Delegation
The U.S. Embassy in Paraguay reported that the delegation is led by Representative Jason Smith (Republican from Missouri), Ways and Means Committee Chairman. Smith, along with his colleagues, is on a tour of hemisphere countries.

- Claudia Tenney (New York), Ways and Means Committee.
- Garret Graves (Louisiana), Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
- María Elvira Salazar (Florida), Committee on Foreign Affairs.
- Mark Alford (Missouri), Armed Services Committee.
- Ed Case (Hawaii), Appropriations Committee.
