Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and First Lady Leticia Ocampos visited the remains of Pope Francis at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. The presidential couple prayed for the Holy Father, who always expressed his affection for Paraguay and visited the country in 2015.
«We came to pray for him, to thank him for so much affection, and of course, to ask that he continue blessing the Paraguayan people from heaven,» said Peña.
The Paraguayan Head of State was in Rome to attend the Mass that officially marks the beginning of the Pontificate of Leo XIV, the Pope Elected as Francis’s successor in the conclave of cardinals.
Peña expressed his hope for the new Pope, who has close ties to the South American region, having served for decades as bishop of Chiclayo, a city in northern Peru.
