Paraguarí, Agencia IP.- The Paraguarí Train Station was the setting for the inauguration of the first gateway of the Sendas del Tren project, a strategic initiative aimed at recovering Paraguay’s former railway corridor and transforming it into the longest bike path in South America, integrating tourism, sustainable mobility, historical heritage, and local development.
During her remarks, Minister Angie Duarte highlighted the value of coordinated work and the impact that initiatives of this kind generate in local territories.
«This gateway marks a milestone within a long-term project. It is a concrete example of how, when strategic partners come together, ideas turn into realities that transform communities,» she stated.
In this context, she particularly emphasized the support of German cooperation, whose contribution enabled the completion of this first gateway, strengthening a development model based on sustainability, international cooperation, and heritage enhancement.
Duarte also recalled that this milestone adds to other recent achievements of the project, such as the inauguration of bridges, reflecting a process that is advancing steadily and is already beginning to generate a tangible impact on the communities involved.
She likewise thanked the Sendas del Tren team and especially highlighted Jero Buman, the driving force behind the initiative, for the vision and commitment that made this collective dream possible.
From Senatur, institutional support for this proposal was reaffirmed, understanding tourism as a tool for identity and opportunity, capable of energizing local economies and creating new experiences for visitors and travelers.
The event was attended by national, departmental, and municipal authorities, representatives of international cooperation, and members of the project’s promoting team. Participants included the Minister of Tourism, Angie Duarte; the Vice Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Paraguay, Jörg Herrera; the Governor of the Department of Paraguarí, Norma Zárate; the Mayor of Paraguarí, Marcelo Simbrón; and representatives of partner organizations.
