Peña to meet with Macron and reopen Paraguayan Embassy in Jerusalem in December

Asunción, Agencia IP.- President Santiago Peña announced that in the first week of December, he will make an official visit to France, followed by a visit to Israel, where the Paraguayan Embassy in Jerusalem will reopen.

«At the end of next week, I will make a state visit to France at Macron’s invitation. I will participate in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) ministerial meeting,» the President said during a press conference yesterday.

Following this visit, he will travel to Israel for two days, during which he will attend meetings with parliamentarians and other authorities and oversee the official inauguration of Paraguay’s Embassy in Jerusalem.

«This is a very important agenda for us. We regret the conflict in the Middle East, but we stand with Israel’s democratically elected government and its defense following the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023,» Peña added.

On September 18, Israel reopened its Embassy in Paraguay, reaffirming that Paraguay would relocate its diplomatic headquarters from Tel Aviv, its current location, to Jerusalem, which the international community considers disputed territory. Palestine claims East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

President Peña has previously emphasized the historic friendship between Paraguay and Israel and the similarities and opportunities for bilateral relations between the two nations.
