Paraguayan ambassador presents credentials to OAS Secretary General

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay’s new permanent representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Raúl Florentín, presented his credentials this Friday to the organization’s Secretary General, Luis Almagro, during a ceremony held in Washington, DC.

The diplomat stated in his speech that his representation will focus on defending democracy and the rule of law, promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms, and strengthening good relations of friendship and cooperation with Member States and Permanent Observers.

He also recognized Paraguay’s great challenge in hosting the OAS General Assembly, which will take place in Asunción between June 26 and 28 under the motto «Integration and Security for the Sustainable Development of the Region.»

For his part, Secretary General Luis Almagro stressed that Ambassador Florentín represents a very important country within the Organization, having been one of the signatory States of the creation of the OAS in 1948. It has honored the fulfillment of the fundamental pillars, represented by the promotion and strengthening of Democracy, Human Rights, Hemispheric Security, and Integral Development.

Ambassador Florentín served as ambassador to Japan and Germany, Minister Chargé d’Affaires in Switzerland, and Commercial Counselor in Germany and Washington, D.C.
