Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay will participate in the «Inaugural Conference of the Americas on Combating Cartels and Criminal Groups,» to be held on March 4 and 5 in Doral, Florida, convened by the United States government.
«This is a very important event for the country, especially for defense and security. All the defense ministers of the Americas will be there to address three fundamental issues: drug trafficking, terrorism, and cyber defense,» announced Defense Minister Óscar González.
The minister emphasized that these issues are precisely part of Paraguay’s priority agenda in defense and security, and that international cooperation is essential for the success of this fight.
The conference was convened by the United States government, led by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who also invited Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano to participate in the regional event.
In the invitation letter, the Secretary of Defense stated that «shared threats throughout the Western Hemisphere require revitalized defense partnerships based on concrete actions and continued investment in support of our hemispheric security and prosperity,» and emphasized that drug trafficking and organized crime pose a real threat to the region.
Building common lines of action
In this context, the U.S. is moving forward in building common lines of action with allied countries. It is convening «regional defense and security leaders» to continue exploring «new opportunities to counter narco-terrorists and other shared threats.»
