Asunción, Agencia IP.– This Friday, the first shipment of Paraguayan beef to Canada was completed from the Frigo Chorti industrial plant in Loma Plata, Paraguayan Chaco. This historic achievement marks another milestone towards the consolidation of this sector in North American markets.
The first container sent, with frozen meat cuts, arrived just a month after the market for the Paraguayan product was opened.
The members of the Chortitzer Cooperative, formed in the Paraguayan Chaco by descendants of Canadian immigrants, made a great effort to be the first to send 25 tons of meat to the North American country.
«Our Canadian heritage has instilled in us convictions that we have embodied in our operations, which today open the doors to such an important market. We will continue to work to maintain our quality standards, innovate in our processes, and expand our presence in international markets,» said Florian Reimer, general manager of the cooperative, at the event held this Friday.
He highlighted that the livestock sector significantly impacts the Paraguayan Chaco, mentioning that 80% of the cooperative’s exports consist of beef, benefiting about 1,200 members and a broad base of non-member producers.
«It’s an achievement for everyone» was the event’s motto, marking the first shipment of Paraguayan meat to Canada.
For his part, the President of the National Service of Quality and Animal Health (Senacsa), José Carlos Martin, emphasized that «historic shipments are becoming a habit» since the first shipment to the United States was made six months ago, following the reopening of that market.
Martin said that the export goal for this year with Canada is around 3,000 tons, with a prospect of expansion, understanding that it is a large market.
He highlighted that with the U.S., more than 5,000 tons have been sent in just five months, positioning that market as the sixth most important for Paraguayan exports.
He stated that the challenge now is to keep these highly demanding markets open, increase exports with different types of cuts, and achieve Mexico’s authorization to consolidate the presence of Paraguayan meat in North America.
«Once we close NAFTA with Mexico, we believe we can target those markets, and in that sense, we are working with some Asian countries where we believe we can have a nice surprise by the end of the year,» said the President of Senacsa.
