Paraguay focuses on final proposal to present to FIFA for the opening of the 2030 World Cup

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Michael Boys, advisor to the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) for organizing the 2030 World Cup, stated that the recently organized workshop by FIFA in Switzerland was just the beginning, considering the process is quite lengthy. They are currently working on the proposal to host one of the opening matches of the World Cup, which will also occur in Argentina and Uruguay.

Last week, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) participated in the workshop organized by FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland, for the host countries of the 2030 and 2034 World Cups.

The Secretary-General, Luis Kanonnikoff, represented the Paraguayan delegation, the Deputy Secretary-General, Alba Benítez, and the Director of Competitions, Michael Sánchez.

During the event, a series of parameters and guidelines for the tournament were shared. Now, the formal groundwork for direct work with the applicant associations has been laid, explained Michael Boys.

Definitive proposal with all details

Regarding the progress of the different components, he indicated that the work is in full swing. In this context, he explained that by July 31, the APF must present its definitive proposal with all the details of the country’s proposal to host one of the centennial celebration matches.

«Once FIFA receives this application, it evaluates it. There are a couple of months of consultations, followed by the evaluation, including the proposal and a risk analysis with all the events organized. Subsequently, it is executed with the minimum standards and presented to the FIFA Council, which would take place at the end of the year. The Council ultimately decides who is eligible to host the World Cup,» he detailed in an interview with Radio Nacional del Paraguay.

He emphasized that as an association, they are focused on preparing the proposal for submission in July and then addressing the other aspects until the final vote of the FIFA Council, which will determine the various stages and organizers for the global event.

«Today, we are dedicated to preparing the application for that centennial opening match that precedes the global celebration of football. We assume that bringing these three matches here will be a great milestone in the history of Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina,» he reported.

He also mentioned that all the above requires extensive legal documentation related to payment commitments, cities, and various entities committed to the success of the opening match in Paraguay.

It is important to note that Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay will host the opening matches of the 2030 World Cup, which will also be played in Europe and Africa, coinciding with the centenary of the first World Cup.
