Asunción, Agencia IP.- During the last day of competition of the Pan-American Games in Santiago de Chile, the female golfer Sofía García obtained the first place on the podium, giving Paraguay its first gold medal.
García gained the gold medal with an outstanding performance of -14 strokes at the end of the tournament, over the -7 of Valery Plata, from Colombia, who finished second.
With this, the national delegation has seven medals in the Pan-American Games.
The first bronze medal came from Alejandra Alonso and Nicole Martínez in women’s doubles rowing. Martínez repeated the bronze in individual rowing. In canoe slalom, two more bronzes came in men’s and women’s races for Leonardo Curcel and Ana Paula Fernandes.
In cycling, Agua Marina Espínola conquered the third place in road cycling, and the handball team also won the bronze medal.
The men’s athletics team performed another outstanding participation in the 4×100 relay. Camila Pirelli in Heptathlon finished in 5th position, Víctor López finished 4th in Figure Skating, the women’s Rugby Sevens team finished in 5th position, José Daniel Moncada took the 5th place in Speed Skating, Montserrat Viveros finished 6th in Fencing, and Patricia Marín finished 8th in BMX.
