Minister highlights advantages of Paraguay’s economy in Paris

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Minister of Economy and Finances, Carlos Fernández, exposed the advantages and qualities of Paraguay’s economy to important members of the international community. Fernández claimed that Paraguay stands out for being a green investment destiny, profitable and predictable.

The presentation occurred during the Minister’s visit to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finances (MEF).

From the presentation, the Deputy Director of the OECD Development Centre, Federico Bonaglia, the President of the Board of Directors of the OECD Development Centre, and the Deputy Director of the Committee of Global Relations of the OECD participated. Also, there were present authorities from institutes and universities such as Sciences Po, Institute France Ameriques, IHEAL, Foundation Prospective Innovation, and Ambassadors of country members of the OECD. Also, the Vice Minister of Economy and Planification of the MEF, Carlos Javier Charotti, was present in this presentation.

Another addressed point was Paraguay’s geostrategic position in the region, a context in which public investment projects with private financing have been and will be an impulse. Likewise, Fernández highlighted that Paraguay prioritizes green initiatives, with several protected areas and laws to preserve its natural patrimony.

He emphasized that 40% of the country’s territory comprises native forests, and 15% are protected wild areas. He mentioned that the Oriental Region counts on a Law of Zero Deforestation. Paraguay is a leader in direct sowing, avoiding more significant carbon emissions into the atmosphere due to soil movement.

At another moment of the presentation, he said that Paraguay leads the generation of renewable energy and has the region’s lowest carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Also, the country seeks to be a regional center for biofuel while betting on investments in the so-called «energy of the future.»

He cited laws and tax benefits, such as the Special Tariff Regime for the Importation of Raw Materials and Inputs; Incentives for the Production, Development and Assembly of High Technology Products; the Law of Public Private Partnership and Investment Guarantees. These opportunities are supported by a legal framework that encourages private investment, complemented by improvements to facilitate the development of new businesses and with a low tax burden for investment.

Finally, he highlighted that, according to the Foundation Getulio Vargas, Paraguay positions as the best countries in the region for business.
