Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Embassy of Japan in Paraguay announced the signing of donation agreements to implement two new community projects in the departments of Boquerón and Itapúa, within the framework of the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance Program.
The signing ceremony will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m. at the embassy, located in the Citicenter building at the intersection of Cruz del Chaco and Mariscal López Avenue in Asunción. During the ceremony, the Japanese Ambassador to Paraguay, Katsumi Itagaki, will sign the donation agreements with representatives of the beneficiary institutions.
The total amount of the cooperation is US$195,183, equivalent to approximately 1.25 billion guaraníes, earmarked for projects that aim to improve infrastructure and strengthen community services.
Projects
One of the projects will benefit the Municipality of Filadelfia, in the department of Boquerón. The initiative includes constructing a cobblestone road along the access road to Filadelfia’s main health post, a project that will improve accessibility to the health center for the local population. It is estimated that around 25,000 residents will benefit from this project.
The second project will be carried out by the Volunteer Fire Department of Tomás Romero Pereira, in the department of Itapúa. In this case, the funds will be used to construct a new fire station for the district’s volunteer firefighters. The project will directly benefit 39 volunteers who provide services to approximately 30,000 residents of Tomás Romero Pereira and 16,000 residents of the Tavaí district in the Caazapá department.
The Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) aims to support initiatives designed to meet basic needs and improve the quality of life in communities by providing direct funding to the institutions responsible for implementing the projects.
Since the implementation of this cooperation program in 1989, the Japanese government has funded 435 projects in Paraguay, primarily in the areas of education, health, and road infrastructure. The cumulative investment has reached approximately US$28,092,000, making it one of the most active cooperation programs supporting community development in the country.
