Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay is preparing to host one of the most important sporting events on the continent: the 2026 Pan-American Mountain Bike Championships, which will take place from April 16 to 19 at the Aguavista circuit in the district of San Juan del Paraná, in the department of Itapúa.
The president of the Paraguayan Cycling Federation, Bertha Hahn, highlighted that a preparatory event will precede the championships, bringing together more than 300 athletes and nearly 1,500 participants, including delegations, technical teams, and organizers.
The continental competition will attract the best cyclists in the Americas, who will face a circuit of more than 5 kilometers that combines fast sections, technical turns, wooden bridges, rock gardens, and stunning views of the Paraná River. This course, near the city of Encarnación, is positioned as one of the most outstanding for mountain biking in the region.

The competition will feature Olympic Cross Country (XCO), Short Track (XCC), Eliminator (XCE), and Team Relay (XCR) disciplines, all valid for the continental ranking, with participation from national teams from various countries.
The championship will generate significant activity in Encarnación and throughout Itapúa, which are preparing to welcome athletes, media, and visitors. In addition to the competition, attendees will be able to enjoy the area’s tourist attractions, including its beaches, riverfront, local cuisine, and various historical and natural sites.
Athletes interested in participating must register through the event’s official system and hold a valid 2026 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) license.
International recognition and projection
The event was declared of national and sporting interest by the Senate through Decree No. 430, adding to other declarations of departmental and tourism interest. This institutional support highlights the championship’s importance for the development of sports, tourism, and the local economy.
The Minister of Tourism, from the National Tourism Secretariat, praised the country’s selection as host, noting that this type of competition strengthens Paraguay’s position as a sports tourism destination and demonstrates its organizational capacity at an international level.
With its high-level organization and privileged natural setting, the 2026 Pan American Mountain Bike Championships are poised to be a key showcase for Paraguay’s sporting and tourism offerings to the rest of the continent.
