Foreign company announces successful completion of study to install hydrogen plant in Villeta

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Atome Energy group, of English origin, announced that it completed the front-end engineering design study («FEED») to invest close to US$500 million in a hydrogen and green ammonia factory in Villeta, Paraguay. The factory will generate approximately 4,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

The firm’s statement highlights that this step «marks an important milestone in developing the 145MW Villeta Project». It allows for maintaining the goal of starting construction before 2024.

It announces that the Villeta Project has become one of the most advanced in the world. Starting in 2027, they have worked on this innovative project to offer carbon-free fertilizers, contributing their experience in accelerating the decarbonization of sectors that are difficult to reduce.

«The completion of this complex and detailed FEED study, which we believe is a first for a fully green industrial-scale fertilizer facility, provides the foundational engineering needed not only for our first Villeta Project but for Atome to apply it elsewhere, consolidating our position as an international leader in green fertilizer production,» the document states.

It explains that the company’s immediate attention now focuses on the procurement agreement for the green fertilizers to be produced and the signing of the EPC, which will allow us to move towards the delivery of the Final Investment Decision (FID) this year.

Atome is advancing discussions on the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction («EPC») contract and anticipates that these steps will lead to the appointment of the main EPC contractors by the end of June 2024, with the definitive contract expected to be signed at the time of the FID expected later this year.
