Asunción, Agencia IP.- A recently released documentary titled «Paraguay: The Hidden Gem of Latin America» has brought international attention to Paraguay’s economic, cultural, and energy potential. Available on YouTube, this Finnish production, supported by the Network of Investments and Exports (Rediex), captures the essence of a country emerging as a key destination for business and sustainability.
The documentary features insights from President Santiago Peña, Minister of Industry and Commerce Javier Giménez, and several Paraguayan entrepreneurs. It highlights Paraguay’s advantages to investors and entrepreneurs, including a young population, favorable tax regimes, clean and renewable energy, and macroeconomic stability, positioning the nation as a regional outlier.
«Paraguay has the chance to become a fully carbon-neutral nation.»
A glimpse at the first episode: «A country ready for business»
The first episode delves into the pillars of Paraguay’s economy. According to the documentary, Paraguay ranks as the sixth-largest soybean producer globally, thanks to its fertile lands and a climate conducive to year-round farming.
«Paraguay is a place with a tremendous amount of fresh water, great soil, great sunlight, and summer. Basically, three seasons out of the year are summer, with a light winter and many growing seasons,» said Kiantar Betancourt, president of Atenil.
The documentary also highlights reforestation and silvopastoral initiatives that create jobs and contribute to environmental conservation. Farmer Russel Toews noted, «It is basically summer all year round. The land is never empty in Paraguay. This is why they are the world’s sixth largest producer of soybeans, the main agricultural export.»
Paraguay is leading the way toward a sustainable future with a 100% renewable energy matrix and exporting 80% of its electricity. «Paraguay has the chance to become a fully carbon-neutral nation,» explained Kiantar Betancourt. «Our major daily activity is capturing carbon in our forests. Around 40% of Paraguay’s land is already covered by forests, which means a lot of carbon is already being captured. Alongside other initiatives, it could even lead to Paraguay becoming completely carbon neutral,» he added.
Javier Giménez, Minister of Industry and Commerce, added, «And Itaipu ended up being the largest dam and still is the third largest dam in the world, generating enormous amounts of green energy that now positions Paraguay as a global player in this green energy business that is so demanding in the world.»
«There is a huge opportunity there, and I know that the current government and there are a lot of projects now to focus on that. So we need to tell the world the next generation of green, sustainable energy is in Paraguay,» shared Jazmín Gustale Gill, founder and managing partner of Ithink VC.
Giménez also emphasized, «The fact that we are exporting 80% of our energy to our neighboring countries at low tariffs because this is the way things have been run before; we need to change that. We need to completely plant a flag into Paraguay and say, look, we have the greenest, most abundant energy in the world.»
An attractive hub for manufacturing
The documentary underscores Paraguay’s low tax costs and skilled workforce, solidifying the country as an attractive regional manufacturing hub.
«The focus for selling products is the local market, but we also export mainly to Brazil and Bolivia, our neighboring countries. We’ve also exported to other countries like Ecuador, Venezuela, and even Africa,» said Franz Friesen, administrative manager of Hilagro.
«We need to completely plant a flag into Paraguay and say, look, we have the greenest, most abundant energy in the world.»
A legacy of stability
The production highlights Paraguay’s political and economic stability and resilience after historical adversities such as the Triple Alliance War.
President Santiago Peña remarked, «Paraguayans, we would strongly commit to macro stability. And how do we do this? A country that has maintained macro stability for 80 years with the same currency. And for a European, this might not be a big issue. Still, Latin America has been full of cases of hyperinflation. This is one of the main roots of instability and high inflation. Paraguay has maintained very low inflation and has an independent central bank.»
With a fresh and optimistic perspective, «Paraguay: The Hidden Jewel of Latin America» invites the world to discover a country that blends history, sustainability, and economic opportunities. Paraguay is presented as a nation poised to become a regional development leader through the documentary’s testimonials.
