Asunción, Agencia IP.- At the opening session of the First Edition of the Paraguay Carbon Forum, Environment Minister Rolando de Barros stated that Paraguay is building a carbon economy that, by integrating biodiversity, production, and competitiveness, will benefit all sectors of society.
Celebrating the realization of the most important regional event on the carbon economy in Paraguay, the Minister affirmed that Paraguay is at a historic moment, having made the strategic decision to become a key player in the environmental and climate agenda.
«We have been talking about carbon credits for 20 years. Today, it is a reality, and Paraguay has already completed its transactions. Now we are strengthening this so that we can double the value,» he stated.
Impact across all sectors
«The Carbon Forum is not just another technical event; it’s the space where we connect natural wealth with investment, technology, markets, and real opportunities for all sectors of the economy,» said the Minister.
He pointed out that the carbon economy essentially consists of generating income through the country’s natural resources.
«Our country has already grasped something fundamental: sustainability is not a limitation, it’s a competitive advantage. Paraguay isn’t choosing between conservation and development; Paraguay is doing both intelligently,» he emphasized.
«We are building a carbon economy that integrates biodiversity, production, and competitiveness within a jurisdictional framework that will allow us to obtain better prices. Because let’s be clear, this is not just wishful thinking; we are talking about a business opportunity that will benefit all sectors of our society,» he added.
Paraguay as a regional hub
The Minister also affirmed that Paraguay is positioning itself as a regional carbon hub capable of attracting diverse activities and generating socioeconomic impacts.
«Paraguay is already on the move, and what is at stake is the country’s position in the global economy in the coming years. And we have decided to lead this process, to leave a mark that will truly be remembered in history,» he stated.
He emphasized that the Carbon Forum is part of this process of leveraging the country’s natural heritage. «We are not here just to exchange ideas; we are here to forge agreements, not only to debate but also to structure projects that will benefit our country,» he concluded.
