Taiwan approves Paraguayan poultry exports

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The opening of the Taiwanese market to Paraguayan chicken exports has been confirmed, granting Paraguay access to its three main meat products. The approval was confirmed during a meeting between Presidents Santiago Peña and Lai Ching-te in the Asian country.

Poultry exports to Taiwan represent approximately 200,000 tons per year, valued at USD 340 million. Only a few US states currently have access to these exports, and Paraguay is now included, the Taiwanese embassy in Paraguay reported.

Taiwan has established itself as a significant market for Paraguayan pork since the implementation of zero tariffs in July 2025. With this change, over 85% of Paraguayan pork exports are now available to local consumers. The pork sector has become the fastest-growing meat production sector in Paraguay.

For the poultry sector, annual exports are estimated at USD 15 million, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) is promoting its production among small producers, in addition to investment projects in the sector, such as that of the Pluma firm, which plans an investment of USD 50 million in Yhú, Caaguazú department.
