Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs Rubén Ramírez Lezcano met in Washington with U.S. Deputy Trade Representative Jeffrey Goettman to discuss the current state of trade relations between the two countries. They also addressed the implementation of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) and explored the possibility of advancing a specific quota for Paraguayan beef to access the United States market.
The Foreign Minister highlighted that this initiative stems from efforts led by President Santiago Peña, following two meetings he held with the U.S. Trade Representative, which helped open a dialogue to move forward jointly.
The meeting was also attended by Paraguay’s Ambassador to the United States, Gustavo Leite, and the President of the National Service for Animal Quality and Health (Senacsa), José Carlos Martin Camperchioli.
Representing the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) were Chief Agricultural Negotiator Julie Callahan, Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for the Western Hemisphere Daniel Watson, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Latin America Courtney Smothers, among others.
