Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Marco Riquelme, along with the Vice Minister of Industry, Javier Viveros, presented the results of their recent trip to the United States, highlighting Paraguay’s potential to become a key player in the global artificial intelligence and data processing industry.

During the press conference, Minister Riquelme emphasized that Paraguay has strategic advantages for entering this industry, primarily due to its availability of clean, competitive electricity, which is considered the main input for the operation of data centers.

He explained that every 100 megawatts of energy can attract approximately USD 4 billion in investment, representing an unprecedented opportunity to boost the national economy.

«Paraguay can become the hub of artificial intelligence in the region, using its energy to generate value, attract investment, and position itself as a global provider of technological services,» he stated.

However, he also warned about the challenges this process entails, such as strengthening energy infrastructure, ensuring data protection, improving connectivity, and establishing a competitive tax framework that attracts investment without sacrificing benefits to the country.

In this regard, he emphasized the importance of strengthening production chains and developing the knowledge industry to ensure these investments have a positive impact on the local economy, rather than relying solely on foreign capital.

Improving efficiency

For his part, Vice Minister Viveros emphasized that the incorporation of artificial intelligence will also improve the State’s efficiency, especially in areas such as health, logistics, and public procurement, where there are already successful international examples of cost reduction and process optimization.

Finally, the MIC authorities agreed that the development of this sector will require a strong commitment to education and talent development, as well as collaboration with strategic allies such as Taiwan and the United States, key players in the global technology industry.

«This is a historic opportunity. Artificial intelligence is not science fiction; it is a real tool that can transform our economy and improve the quality of life for Paraguayans,» the Minister concluded.
