Asunción, Agencia IP.- From Paraguayan courts to universities in the United States, and from high performance to coaching, young Luján Palacios has established herself as one of the most representative figures in Paraguayan women’s squash. Her story reflects the journey of an athlete who embraced sport as a way of life from an early age and now transforms her experience into a legacy for new generations.
Born in Paraguay, Luján began playing squash at age 10 and quickly stood out for her talent, discipline, and determination. Her growth was evident from her first youth tournaments, where she positioned herself as one of the main promises of national and continental squash.
She currently resides in the United States, where she has completed her university studies and remains connected to high-performance sport. In addition to staying active as an athlete, she works as a squash coach at the Round Hill Club and at LB Squash, both in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she shares her experience and contributes to the development of young athletes.
With more than 30 children and adolescents under her guidance, and holding the international Level 1 Coach certification, Luján officially made her debut as a coach at the recent US Open of Squash, one of the most important junior tournaments in the world. At the same time, she maintains an active link with the Paraguayan Squash Association, providing guidance and support in the training of new talents who represent the future of the sport in the country.
Throughout her career, Palacios has achieved significant success at various levels of squash. She has competed in South American championships, standing out in both individual and team events, and played a key role in the South American Senior Championship in Santiago, Chile, contributing to Paraguay’s podium finish on the continent.

Her career later took her to the United States, where she joined the Trinity College team, excelling on the university squash circuit and securing victories in high-level competitions, confirming that her talent transcended borders.
The importance of institutional support
Luján’s story is rooted in the early support she received through Paraguay’s National Sports Secretariat (SND) scholarship program. Being part of the elite sports system allowed her access to resources, specialized training, and international competitions, key factors in her development as a high-performance athlete.
This state support is essential for talented young people to access opportunities that would otherwise be unattainable. Beyond boosting athletic development, it opens doors to educational experiences in which sport becomes a bridge to academic and professional growth.
When the State invests in athletes from childhood and adolescence, it not only promotes high performance but also helps shape citizens who, like Luján, become ambassadors of Paraguay in the international sporting and educational arenas.
