Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay’s Government seeks to attract technological enterprises from all over the world to become our country into a technological regional center, according to the declarations of the Minister of Technologies of the Information and Communications (Mitic, by its acronym in Spanish), Gustavo Villate.
The Minister highlighted the interest that the United States has in Paraguay, where President Santiago Peña and his entourage kept a successful meeting agenda with enterprises such as Google, Microsoft, and Cisco, among others.
“There is a lot of interest to know more about Paraguay. This is positive because there is much unknown about our country; so far, we have a neutral image, and this is a great opportunity”, said Villate during an interview by Arriba HOY, broadcasted by GEN.
“We have a lot of professional talent. In the largest cutting-edge companies in the world, there is at least one Paraguayan,” he declared, “They are our ambassadors, and through them, we can achieve important alliances,” he added.
Villate also mentioned that the government is working on agreements with technological enterprises to potentiate human capital and strengthen the electronic government, referring to the training opportunities generated during the meetings held in the United States.
He clarified that there are already some first guidelines agreed upon in draft with Google and that, without commitment on the part of Paraguay, they are willing to offer training, tools to strengthen cybersecurity, educational platforms, and tools for telemedicine, among others.
The Minister also referred to Starlink’s initiative, the Elon Musk enterprise that offers satellite connectivity. “Starlink wants to arrive in our country in December, and from the State, we are negotiating an adjustment of prices so we can provide connectivity to remote parts of the country”, he pointed out.
Villate assured that the arrival of technological enterprises to Paraguay would generate labor, capacity in human capital, and greater efficiency in services. “We want these technology companies to be installed in the country; this generates mainly labor, capacity in the human capital, but also generate for them and us, greater efficiency in their services,” he concluded.
The initiative of Paraguay’s Government to become the regional technological hub is an essential step for the country’s development. Technology is a growing sector that offers opportunities for employment, economic growth, and social development.
