Asunción, Agencia IP.- In a statement issued today, the Government of the Republic of Paraguay ratifies its firm support for the elected President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, and condemns the actions of the illegitimate regime of Nicolás Maduro.
Likewise, it expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who are fighting to obtain their freedom and return to living in democracy, demands fundamental guarantees for all inhabitants, including foreigners residing in that country, and calls for respect for human rights and the release of political prisoners in Venezuela.
Despite accusations of fraud by the opposition and international governments, Maduro was sworn in this Friday for a third term as President of Venezuela. The majority of Latin American leaders refused to attend the event.
The Presidents of Cuba and Nicaragua, Miguel Díaz Canel and Daniel Ortega, respectively, were the only leaders from the region who attended the inauguration, after most of the leaders questioned the election results and Maduro’s inauguration ceremony. Representatives from Russia, Iran and China also attended.
